Junior sailors raise big bucks for a good cause
Competitors were from the Centerport Yacht Club, Cold Spring Harbor Yacht Club, Northport Yacht Club, Head of the Bay and Huntington YMCA. This was the first year that Cold Spring Harbor Yacht Club participated in the fundraiser. "They decided to join because they heard about the positive feedback from past participants," said Doherty.Priebe, 9, took first place in the green fleet. This was his first year sailing an Optimist. Priebe came out in front of 15-20 sailors in two out of the four races that he entered. "I was mostly nervous and excited at the same time. I was worried if I remembered everything," he said. "I was very excited that the first regatta I've ever done I came in first. The regatta was great fun and that's the important thing besides helping the children."
Three members of the Glackin family had a very successful day on the water. They were able to finish in the top three places in each of their races. Aidan, 8, had a third-place finish in the green fleet.
