Commodore charts course for yacht club
Harvey joined the club’s board of directors last year, and served as bar chair and treasurer.
“Go big or go home,” said Harvey, now the club’s new commodore.
“I went with my parents when I was a toddler, as kids we loved to hang out around the water,” said Harvey. “I went through the club’s junior sailing project.
“It has been a big part of my life. I like the idea of having the kids more involved, whether it is junior sailing or other events and programs.”
Like the chair of any board, the commodore directs the members in ways that help the group’s affairs flow properly.
“The primary goal is to continue to make the yacht club more of a focal point in the village,” Harvey said. “We are starting from a good place and I hope to build on it.”
There was a full renovation of the upstairs bar a number of years ago and the membership is working on replacing the breakwater.
“There are a lot of things in the works,” said Harvey. “We have longtime members who are incredible and support the club in so many ways. At the same time, I think it is important to bring in younger people. We’d have contributions from all ages with varied talents.”
