Sail through the Whitsundays
Leaving the jetty at Hamilton Island, the weather looked dubious heavy cloud and not much wind.
This was Anderberg's first gig at skippering and he guided the big vessel under power neatly out of the marina into Dent Passage.
Ropes were neatly coiled, sails were bagged, beer was in the fridge and everything else was shipshape as we motored north around Hamilton Island, past the futuristic new Yacht Club and the luxurious Yacht Club Villas tiered up behind it.
As Anderberg pointed out the house on the hill once owned by Beatle George Harrison, the wind picked up. He cut the motor, shot up the sails single-handedly with some intricate state-of-the art machinery and Quatre Filles lurched out on to the open sea like a bucking bull.
We followed the southern coast of Whitsunday Island, biggest of the 74, past a string of little bays and inlets, past Turtle Bay, Crayfish Bay, Silica Bay and Craig Point and as we reached tiny Teague Island and entered Solway Pass, the wind dropped, the sun came out and on our left was 6km of shimmering white sand the impossibly beautiful Whitehaven Beach.
