Naval Academy Coming to Cedar Point
The senior officers will also experience the hospitality from local host families through Sunday.
“The crews of the Naval Academy Offshore Sail Training Squadron (OSTS) are looking forward to our visit to Westport during the weekend,” said Peter G. Chabot of Norfolk, Va., a retired Navy Rear Admiral who will be conducting some of the training.
“We are most appreciative of the welcome and hospitality planned during our stay at the Cedar Point Yacht Club, particularly your generous offer to open your homes to midshipman members of our crews.”
The OSTS has been en route in 44-foot sailboats from Annapolis since Monday. According to Michael Lindberg, a member of Cedar Point and visit coordinator, the Westport visit is part of a three-week, on-water training program that crew members have to complete, “and they are half way through it.”
OSTS is one part of the summer training program conducted for midshipmen that have just completed their plebe year, said Chabot.
