James ''Jim'' Conti

James ''Jim'' Conti, 69, formerly of Jamestown, N.Y., died May 13, 2011, in Los Angeles, Calif.

Jim was born in James-town, N.Y., on April 17, 1942. At age 8, he joined the newly renovated James-town Boys Club, where he excelled in swimming. Swim coaches had en-couraged him to compete because they believed he had the potential to make the U.S. Olympic team, however, he found that gymnastics was more to his liking. He enjoyed the team and the competition, and won many trophies.

He attended Jamestown High School prior to enlis-ing in the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, he served as an English/Italian translator during the 1960 Olympics in Rome.

Jim and his family moved to Los Angeles in 1963. He became a house painter and had his own painting and construction company. Jim lived in the Marina del Rey area in Los Angeles for many years, and eventually lived on his sailboat, Gitana. He loved his boat, and spent his re-tirement years sailing in Mexico, making his home port in San Carlos in Sonora, Mexico. Jim was a member of the Pacific Ma-riners Yact Club in Marina del Rey since 1996. He touched many with his gen-erous heart, charismatic smile, sense of humor and willingness to be there for his loved ones and friends.
