Holiday happenings
Saturday July 2 is the day to head for the beach. Not only will it be the only cool place as the heat wave hits, but Bodega Bay is going all our for Independence Day. Beginning at 7 a.m. the local firefighters start making pancakes for breakfast at the Bodega Bay Grange Hall at the corner of Highway 1 and Bodega Ave.. At 11 a.m. when they put away the griuddles, a flea market starts and runs all day or until all the white elephants have been sold.
There’s a barbecue, bounce house and other things happening at the Bodega Harbour Yacht Club on Smith Brothers Road, but according to the office, they are sold out, so if you don’t already have tickets you are out of luck. But there’s plenty other good places to grab a bite in town while you wait for the fireworks sponsored by the Bodega Bay Chamber of Commerce.
Fireworks over the bay when you get dauble the thrill because of the reflections begin at 9:30 p.m. and can be seen from anywhere around the bay. Just remember DON’T bring your own to the beach. They are forbidden on all Sonoma Coast beaches and the rangers will be out in full patrol to make sure none are set off.
