Seven members of the Antilles School sailing team traveled to East Greenwich, Rhode Island, earlier this week, where they triumphed over 35 other teams from across the nation to win the 9th annual CJ Buckley Jr. Team Race Regatta.
The three-day event, which concluded Wednesday, was hosted by the Greenwich Bay Sailing Association. It was sailed out of the East Greenwich Yacht Club and served as the 2011 Club 420 Association National Jr. Team Race Championship.
The regatta started with a randomly seeded round robin after which the teams were divided into divisions A through F based on their number of wins and losses. Thereafter, each division competed in a round robin, and at the end the top two teams moved up a division.
After completing four round robins, Antilles went into the final day of the regatta in first place with 18.5 points. Racing was extremely close, as there was a four-way tie for second with each team at 18 points. In the final knockout round, a best-of-five series was raced to determine the ultimate winner.
